Kitchen Update

There’s been a lot of construction going on. Right outside our department it goes back and forth from being a muddy mess, gaping holes in the ground, big trucks moving big items, or sometimes not anything.  Last week, the concrete floor was laid. (New photos coming soon). In addition to all the outside work, we planned to have our kitchen over-hauled. The week before Christmas, we emptied out all the old, broken, and damaged cabinets in preparation for the new work toRead more

Stocking the animal department kitchen

If you were to come into the animal department kitchen and crack open one of our 6 refrigerators/freezers, you’d probably see a lot of items you’d find in your own fridge at home: apples, oranges, broccoli, carrots… frozen dead mice, mealworms, etc. You know, the usual. 😉 Although we receive a few donations, we purchase most of our produce from the local grocery store, and have to restock our fridges about once a week. Many More Gifts

The gifts keep coming- and not just from our wish-list. My neighbor has left a few items for the animals recently. The sweet potatoes will be enjoyed by the animals. Thanks Donna. Our volunteers Cassie and Cathy brought in fabric to make animal beds, and Lyndi brought us in a new kitchen scale for weighing food. Thank you Dallas for being ready in the chute… you did not need to be ready but thank you anyway. Thank you Duckie for laying eggs today   Now, for the people. Volunteer Alayna started with us in September. We called in someRead more

QuickPost: Thank you Merck!

We had five staff from Merck out recently to help us out with some extra cleaning behind the scenes. We are very appreciative when we have Group Project Volunteers. We literally couldn’t get our jobs done without the help.  Read more

Volunteers at work

We were full staff with a bunch of volunteers Thursday and Friday, and I had no meetings until the afternoon! It meant I could get some desk work done and pop out and say hi to people. A big thanks to these six volunteers and the rest of our behind-the-scenes workers! We cannot take care of the animals without the help of volunteers– last year we had over 4,300 hours of volunteer help.Read more
