We’re going to be trying to breed Northern pine snakes this spring.
We have males and Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury NC has a female.
I’m sure Mikey will write more about the process so look for that coming up. In the meantime, here’s a photo of the female that will be making her way to us in March.
She’s about 6 feet long. She’s being held by Mike Lambert, one of her human caregivers.
She’s pretty! Will you put them together on exhibit or will this happen in the reptile room?
The breeding will happen behind-the-scenes, however our male will go back on exhibit sometime in March (after winter “hibernation” is complete and after mating with the female).
I live in nearby Statesville and just saw that you have a nature center and snakes! I want to get a pet snake and the Pine snake is of interest to me. I would love to see them! What snakes do you currently have in captivity? THe one that Mike is holding is very impressive!
That is a beautiful pine snake!! Some of my fondest memories growing up in middle Georgia is of how plentiful Pine Snakes were back in the 60s and 70s.
I caught, photographed and released many Pine Snakes in Taylor County, but I don’t think I ever saw one as large as the one you are holding!!
Their numbers have certainly gone down.
I wish you great success in breeding these wonderful snakes.
