What happened while we’ve been gone, part 2

Hopefully you’ve been keeping track of our wolf news on Ranger Greg’s blog! He takes amazing photos of the wolves and shares great information so check it out.

In November 2016, it was time for us to send our female red wolf off and get a new one in. During the Red Wolf SSP meeting which happens every summer we learned that we would swap female red wolves with Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center. We were looking to send our female, #1794,  to a quieter location where hopefully she would be out and about more. She never seemed comfortable in our exhibit with our crowds and with our male wolf. In return, we were getting female #1858. This swap still made for a great genetic match should offspring be produced at either location, and hopefully a new female here would be good companionship for our male (#1784) and viewable to our visitors.

It has been going well, at both institutions. Summer-Camp Katie got this video footage a few weeks ago of our wolves here.

And, the curator in Chattanooga says that our former female is out and about all the time- take a look at this quick video she sent me.
