Creature Feature: Cher the opossum

This beautiful opossum is Cher! She lives on exhibit with her brother, Sonny, in Carolina Wildlife. In the picture above, she was in a tub of random enrichment items that was on the support hall. In Memory of J. Pos

Today in the hall

The Animal Support Hall is always full of life.  Whether it’s a Sunday morning with one keeper and one volunteer inside or a Thursday right before lunch with eight keepers and five volunteers.  Today the hall was used for exercise.  Our opossums Sonny and Cher are a bit on the heavy side so we place their daily diet in various places around the hall and let them wander  in search of their goodies.  This afternoon while doing snake enrichment, I wasRead more

‘Possum pilling

I went around turning lights on this AM and checking on all our indoor animals, and stopped in the opossum exhibit, where Sonny and Cher live, to give them their meatballs.   They get some fatty acid and cosequin supplements daily, and we get them to eat it in a little bit of canned cat food,  sardines, eggs, or bread.
