I drove almost 1000 miles last week to get our new male wolf, 1414. He’s 7 years old, over 70 pounds, and he’s sired pups for the past three years at the Miller Park Zoo. We’re hoping that he and our female (1287) will have pups together this spring. We’ll share photos of him soon.Read more

My Day with Aaron
On Tuesday Aaron and I spent 16 hours together driving to Atlanta and back. We were taking the male wolf to his airplane so he could flyout non-stop to his new home in Tacoma Washington. It was a long day for sure, but things went great. Aaron and I arrived back at the Museum tired but safe sometime around midnight. The wolf arrived safe and sound and was let out of his crate around 10 PM pst (1 AM Durham time). You can imagine,Read more
It’s time to say goodbye.
Our male red wolf, 1369, heads out on Tuesday to his new home. I drove him to the Museum from NY and welcomed him just about 4 years ago and now it’s time to say goodbye. It’s a sad, busy, and exciting time getting him ready to head west. He’ll live in Tacoma, WA- the place I call red wolf headquarters. There is a large red wolf holding facility behind-the-scenes at Northwest Trek. Aaron and I will be spending about 16 hours togetherRead more
October is here- an evening with the wolves is upon us

October is when our wolves get their annual physicals and when wolf transfers tend to occur. Before our male wolf heads off to his new home, we’ll celebrate Wolf Awareness Week (October 14th-20th). We’ll be doing programs down at the wolf exhibit daily at 2 PM, but our special event is in the evening. On OctoberRead more
Senate’s Amendment to Farm Bill Threatens Red Wolves
And more bad news for red wolves 🙁 I feel like such a downer, but I think you should know that a bill being proposed in the senate would have grave effects for red wolves. Head over to the red wolf coalition website for more info on bill SA 2315 of the Farm Bill. There might be wonderful parts of this Farm Bill for many different constituents, but for red wolves, not-so-much.Read more
Struggles continue for red wolves
The road is tough for red wolf survival. I wrote in March about another possible setback for red wolves. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission passed the proposed rule allowing night hunting of coyotes and feral pigs. There is a long process ahead, so maybe miracles do exist for this amazing animal. If you’re interested in signing a petition “against” this ruling, click here, or go to http://forcechange.com/20384/overturn-decision-to-allow-unlimited-night-hunting-in-north-carolina/Read more
