Nothing to do today but smile.

Here I am…Again! Sherry wrote a spotlight post on me a few weeks ago. In it, you may have read that have a degree in wildlife conservation biology. While I love scooping poop (not kidding, it has its appeal) I spent a lot of time before working here running through marshes counting beavers, camera trapping egg predators, skinning roadkill squirrels, mist netting/banding birds and bats and most recently, live trapping weasels for DNA testing. Opossums

Over the years we have shared numerous pictures of our opossums We have Virginia Opossums here at the Museum. They are the only marsupial in North America! There are 80 other species of opossum that live in South America and Australia. Fossils from opossums have been found dating back 65 million years!! The Virginia Opossum lives only 2-4 years. Happy Fathers Day

Recently I did a Mothers Day post and thought I would give the Dads some credit too. Emperor Penguin- The males are the ones that balance the eggs on top of their feet and keep them warm  for two months before they hatch. Sea Horse- The monogamous male is the one who gets pregnant. To kill a copperhead…

Spring is almost over, it’s nice and warm and lots of animals have made an appearance. We often see the gray fox and groundhogs here at the museum. One animal that’s had a lot of sightings lately is the copperhead snake. I know a lot of people freak out when they hear about venomous snakes in the area.
