Katy and I got a break from our normal Sunday morning routine when we had to rescue our off-exhibit Tiger Salamander from his water dish. If you’re wondering what I mean by that, watch the video below! The salamander didn’t have any injuries from the ordeal and we gave him a different type of water dish so it will not happen again. Big delivery!
One of the staple foods in our bears’ diets is omnivore chow. Having four black bears, with three still young and growing, imagine how much chow they can eat! In the fall when they are bulking up for winter, they eat 36 pounds of chow a day along with lots of fruits, vegetables and nuts! This means we get our omnivore chow in bulk… specifically 155 bags at a time. Last week our shipment came in, and there were 4Read more
Keeping the animals warm
Well, the cold weather is officially here! I took some pictures of a couple of the new things we have done this season to help keep our farmyard animals warm. To the right you can see pig stretched out under his warm heat lamp in the stall where he sleeps at night. Also, you may recall a post about Nimbus‘s new winter box that we were building. My great getaway
Well, this is my first day back from a two week vacation, and let me tell you it was awesome! If anyone has an explanation for that I’d like to know. Anyway, the one thing that was actually interesting on my vacation was my trip to Bradenton, Florida (toRead more
It’s Time For Hiberna…..zzzzzzzzzz
It’s around that time when Wendy the Woodchuck is slowing down and getting ready for hibernation. She is the only animal that we have that goes into a true hibernation. She does this even though she’s inside a warm cozy building. Although the temperature in her exhibit will not change much throughout the seasons, her body still tells her it is time to take a long nap for the winter. The reason for this is because studies show that animalsRead more
