The other day Mikey,our new animal keeper, was giving a de-worming treatment to one of our wolves. In order for the wolf to ingest the medicine we have to inject it into a thawed rat. Apparently, Mikey did not inject it properly because he wound up wearing most of it.Read more

I’ll get photos up soon to show you our newest residents. A juvenile woodchuck is being quarantined on exhibit in Carolina Wildlife. Her/his name is Henry. A juvenile opossum, Jessica, will be used by our educators for programs. She is a girl. There are four songbirds being quarantined behind the scenes that will eventually go to the Aviary in Carolina Wildlife: two robins, a bluebird, and a rose breasted grosbeak. Since Marilyn is terrified of ticks, its not unlike us keepers to have some fun with her. Ok, actually at her expense and when I say keepers, I mean its mostly me. Marilyn and I work different schedules so I left a message for her before I was off for the weekend. QuikPost: Construction outside our office
It’s a mess outside the animal department support space right now due to construction. It’s great that our area will get some additional space, but last week I couldn’t even walk outside out door- I was met with large tubes (about 2′ diameter), piles of rocks, construction equipment, and mud. It’s now just flat mud, which isn’t much fun either. The next stage is pouring footers, which should be just as bad as this phase. We’ll keep you posted andRead more
