Videos of Ursula

Here’s a couple of videos that were taken of Ursula over the last couple of years. in this first video, there was a particularly heavy snow that we got one winter and one of our previous keepers, Cassidy, got some video of Urse walking around and digging in the snow. Her thick coat made her seem oblivious to the cold weather and snow that was still falling at the time (you can see some of the snow on her back).Read more

Spotlight: Volunteer Karyn

Karyn is a wonderful volunteer, although she prefers live in secret. Karyn does so many different things to help us out.  She can do all of the typical volunteer tasks- cleaning in the Farmyard, taking care of the education animals, and preparing diets -and then some. We ( I guess the ‘me’ part of ‘we’) often pull her off  regular volunteer tasks and have her step in to help out in so many different ways. She’s organized all our enrichment supplies, superRead more

Spotlight: Jill Brown

I have been slack on my Spotlight postings, but I will recommit to telling you all about the special people who work in, with, or help the animal department. I’ve  written spotlights on the rest of the keepers, so here’s the last one, or as Jill would say, I saved the best for last. This is Jill.  She’s been a Keeper here for almost five years ( you can wish her a happy anniversary on September 12). Jill loves birds and Boba Fett. She’sRead more

Spotlight: Queen Wilson

I had been planing to write this month’s spotlight on our operant conditioning specialist who I mentioned several posts ago, or Jill Brown, the last of our animal keepers for you to learn about, but something happened today and I thought I would tell you about Queen. (The picture is purposefully not great as Queen was very upset when I said I would be posting about her on the Blog). Queen has been working at the Museum for OVER 28Read more

Spotlight: Kim Wheeler

This is Kim Wheeler on the left. (She’s with Diane Hendry, the Outreach Coordinator for the Red wolf Recovery Program- I’ll spotlight her a different month though). The photo of the wolves is one of the most famous red wolf photos ever taken and it is of red wolves born right here at the Museum of Life and Science! Kim would rather not be the center of attention, but if that’s what it takes to help out red wolves she’llRead more

Spotlight: Kristen Pormann

This is Kristen. (Can you guess what she has on the other end of her rope?)Kristen started as a volunteer at the Museum- I think back in 2001. She was so good we hired her about seven years ago. Her job is little different than the rest of the Keepers. As the Lead Keeper: Operations, one of Kristen’s main responsibilities is to make sure all the supplies we need are on grounds. Every Wednesday she heads out to the groceryRead more
