White Black Bears

A friend of mine knows I love bears and have been blogging, so she sent me a link to a post on a bird watching blog where someone had seen a white bear. If you’d like to see the post and photo, click here.

Black Bear is really not the best name for Ursus americanus, as the coat color of these bears can be a variety of colors: black, all shades of brown, cinnamon, silver, and even white. These white bears are called Kermode bears.

If you want to learn more about these bears, and the other bears of the world, go to the Bear TAG website, or join us at the Museum for Bear Awareness Week. We’ll have a lot of great activities planned and you’ll be able to see one of the best black bear exhibits around!
