State Fair 2008

What is your favorite time of year? Mine is State Fair Time. I think it should be a state holiday! I look forward to seeing all the agricultural exhbits that celebrate our history of crafts, farming, and small industry.

I’ve included a few images from my visit on Monday. You have a few days left so get out to the fair if you can.

NC Honey producers always have an impressive display of their products and informative displays about apiculture.

NC produces a lot of apples and Pittsboro, NC is home to the remarkable efforts of Lee and Edith Calhoun who have saved many heirloom varieties of apples at their nursery.

These goats were having a grand time on their pyramid of hay. They took turns being king of hill. These are Boer goats like Chummix from the Museum’s farmyard.

There were a few Belted Galloways from Fearington Village. They reminded me of our dearly departed Mr. Moosteer, a long time resident of the Musuem.
