I was “helping” Kristen unload a box on Thursday (I don’t know if she really ever finds me helpful as I usually end up getting distracted by something–keep reading) and I pulled out this corn on the cob toy made for rabbits. I was very tickled by the box’s unenthusiastic claim: I guess I’m so tickled because if I were in charge of writing statements on toy boxes, I would follow up a sentence in which I used the words “really” and “love” with an exclamation point. In my head the lack of it reads in a very monotone voice. Also, I can’t remember ever seeing any of our rabbits throwing anything (that doesn’t mean that they don’t or that rabbits don’t like to). So! We did a very scientific experiment Friday morning which I filmed for your entertainment and edification. You will be the first to find out if rabbits really love to throw things.

This is Annie:Very cute Video Erin!!!!!!!!!!!
Somebody better call Duke–I heard they were recruiting rabbits for the QB spot based on the fact that they are excellent throwers!
How would rabbits go about throwing things even if they did love to do so? Can they really stand on their back limbs and be able to "throw" things with their front limbs?
The whole time I'm sitting here waiting for Bugsy or Nimbus to go all Monty Python on the corn cob. Nicely done.
"How disappointing", I love it!
In the box's defense, I used to live with someone who had two rabbits and they did, in fact, used to "love to throw things"! They used to throw their toys around. To answer your question, Elizabeth, they grab the toys with their teeth and fling their heads in order to throw things. Coming from a true Duke fan: my response to you, Leslie, is that you're not ammusing. 🙂
Well, Nimbus DID throw it and fetch it back. Didn't you see it? (Rabbits are very fast)
It's great to see such cutting-edge research happening at mls.
Thanks for the clarification, Marilyn. That makes much more sense to me now.
Hmmm, I think this was more enrichment for me than it was for the rabbits.Well done!
Alright!!MythBusters, the next generation.
Thanks for all the comments! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I will clearly be conducting more scientific experiments in the future. I like the myth busters idea!
Recently while I was checking on the ferrets I saw Bugsy throwing his rope toy around. He would throw it out of his box and back into his box!!! It was very cute to watch!
