What is that?!

Hello all.   This is my official first post now that I am a blogger with the animal department.  Where Sherry has her “Spotlight” and Marilyn has her “Creature Feature”, I have decided to do a “What is that?!” category.  We do not have this animal at the museum but, it is an interesting type of animal I thought I would share.

(Cordylus cataphractus)

Armadillo Lizard

Its called a Armadillo Lizard and is native to Southern Africa. What makes these lizards so cool is their defensive posture. When threatened, these live bearers will grab their tails in their mouths and make a ring shape which in turn shows off their scales. These guys can get up to almost 9 inches in length and feed on insects.
