Superworms need enrichment too!

Superworms

One night I was closing Carolina Wildlife and I was checking on all the animals.  I started to walk past the superworms when I saw that they had a structure in their container.

Our crickets, superworms and mealworms all get a regular diet just like our other animals do.  But, if we have food scrapes that none of the other animals would want, then we give it to the feeder animals (which are animals that end up being a meal for our birds, turtles, alligators and bearded dragons).   One this particular day, we used a pineapple for some other animals in our collection but what to do with the top of the pineapple?  Well, someone thought it would be great for our superworms to climb and while doing that they can eat on the leaves and small piece of the fruit that is attached at the bottom.

I thought that this was a great opportunity for a picture.  Who said that superworms don’t need enrichment?  This is great for increased locomotion and it provides a different food to eat.
