Enrichment around here comes in all forms. Owls get goldfish, bears get trees stumps, jaybird gets corn husk, and so forth. Every now and then we make fake sheep for the wolves. I thought Keeper Sarah’s fake sheep were particularly cute one afternoon and wanted to share with everyone. It is Wolf Awareness Week- October 16th-22nd. Ferret Fun
In our Education Holding Room the animals get shredded paper to nest in. Majority of the time our shredded paper comes from our offices but sometimes we will make our own. This presented a perfect opportunity for our 2 ferrets, Mason and Dixie Ferrets in general love to dig so they had a little fun having a whole trash can of shredded paper to themselves. Read more

I’m sorry to report that Jessica Opossum passed away last week Jessica Opossum enjoying her enrichment Jessica was one of our Education Holding Room animals, she got to educate many school and birthday party children during her time here with us. Henry Explores Carolina Wildlife
This is Henry our Woodchuck otherwise known as a Groundhog. The other morning, before we opened, Keeper Sarah gave Henry some much needed exercise time, in the people area of Carolina Wildlife. Enrichment at home
Enrichment isn’t just something I do at work. At the end of the day I may have several scents on me- snake musk, opossum funk, steer slobber and many many more. So I go home, lay out my clothes and watch my cats- it’s both enriching for me and them. Read more
