Spotlight: Aaron Dye

Happy Labor Day. It’s somewhat fitting that today is the day you learn about Aaron. He’s such a hard worker and has dedicated his career to working with animals, senior citizens, and students. One could say being a public school science teacher to junior high kids prepared him most for his work at the Museum with the Keepers and animals. 🙂 It’s been just over 1.5 years since Aaron started at the Museum. He came on board when Kristen decidedRead more

Build me a house

Aaron gave me some interesting looking popsicle sticks for lemur enrichment which I immediately had another idea for. Keeper Sarah had some down time as well and decided to take part in my project. So we made a little village for the degus.  Read more

QuikPost: Pranksters

Once again, this is what happens when you leave your locker open and then leave for the day…   We are definitely a group of pranksters around here. We wanted them to be able to hold the popsicle for the themselves while they ate it. So we froze juice and added green beans, celery, and carrots as the sticks. It didn’t workRead more

Come to the Dark Side…We have cookies

And so it just goes to show you what happens when an unsuspecting and seemingly innocent person leaves an opening for a little bit of evil to happen.  Sometimes it’s a computer left logged in, sometimes it’s a routine write up left open to be modified.  And in this case, it was a locker left casually ajar…  All I can say is Mwah ha ha!  In all fairness, much worse stuff could have been loaded into the locker… To beRead more

QuikPost: Lemur Tracking

Erin wrote a great post last year on tracking lemurs. Last month some of the keepers practiced their lemur tracking skills. Each of our lemurs wear a collar so that if they get out of their exhibit we can find them. I wouldn’t really let a real lemur out, so I put a tracking collar on a stuffed-animal and hide it somewhere.   This is what they found:Read more
