Catching some rays

I did a post a few months ago about an outdoor playpen that we were working on for our education animals that live inside. An outing to help wildlife

Keeper Marilyn and I traveled to the Piedmont Wildlife Center’s Festival for Wildlife this past Saturday, and took some of our education animals with us (and some other museum educators from our Science Education Resource Center). Pile of gators

No, it’s not our new version of stackable kapla blocks–it’s just our American Alligators piled up under the basking light in their Carolina Wildlife exhibit. Alligators bask in the sun, or move to cool spots, to help regulate their body temperature. Their hot spot in our exhibit is from a 160 watt heat and UVB light bulb made for reptiles, so you will often see them hanging out under it. I was amused to find them piggybacking like this!
