One of our tiger salamanders will be a little smaller in 2012. A couple of weeks ago one of our tiger salamanders had surgery. For MANY months now we have been trying to treat and cure a growth on the salamander’s tail (Dr. Vanderford described the growth as a Chronic granulomatous inflammation). We have not been succesful, so it was finally time to amputate. Amputation sounds drastic and scary. All went well and the salamander is recovering just as hopedRead more

Yona update (and interesting photos)
Yona is doing great! She’s been back in the exhibit for three weeks. With the exception of her hair being shorter on her right front limb all seems to be wonderful. I cringe when I see her and Gus wrestle on the cliff, but it’s great to see the two of them interacting again. I was looking through some photos and came across the following: A couple weeks after Yona’s surgery Dr. Vanderford was trying to figure out what mightRead more
Lemur Physicals
Last week Dr. Vanderford was here for vet rounds. The ring tailed lemurs got their physicals. Cassandra had her brush with death over the summer, and is doing AMAZINGLY WELL- you would never know there were any issues! A couple photos below from Dr. Vanderford cleaning Casandra’s teeth. All three ring tailed lemurs were checked out and are doing well. It’s no huge surprise that Lycus, our oldest and 25 year old ring tailed lemur, has some teeth worn down.Read more
