QuikPost: Yona’s visit to the vet.

We took Yona in for radiographs (x-rays) on February 9. (We mentioned that after she had a visit from the vets we might take her in if her limp did not improve). Dr. Carter is going to send me some photos of the visit- I busted the camera during the event so it’s going to take me a little longer to get you some photos of Yona lying on a stretcher or an x-ray table. X-rays and blood were taken.Read more

QuikPost: Update on our female red wolf

It looks like our girl went into estrous today! I saw her this morning with what looked to be some blood underneath her tail. It’s pretty remarkable that she started on February 9th/10th of last year, and she’s only a couple days off this year. Talk about having a regular schedule! We will keep you posted on the male and female interactions for the next few weeks.Read more

QuikPost: Snow Day

We’re closed. Lots of snow on grounds. Probably around 5-6 inches at this point with more coming. Keepers Cassidy (and her boyfriend Trace), Erin, and Larry made it in- yay! Here’s a photo of one of the documents we use to help make sure we are dealing with everything that needs to be dealt with. Any thoughts, questions, suggestions, or comments appreciated. If time/conditions permit over the weekend, we’ll get photos to share with you. (remember the post about power outage? Some of the prepRead more

QuikPost: Friends

Sherry mentioned in her post that she gave Yona a stuffed bear a few days ago. Today while we were in the locker room looking for more uniform shirts, we found an old stuffed horse that I think was an old horse from our Play to Learn exhibit. It was getting in our way, but we thought Yona might like a new friend! It will go in with her tonight. I sat on it for scale: And though we areRead more

QuikPost: Yona Update

Yona is beginning to settle in- baby steps though. Her pacing continues but it is less. She is showing interest in the other bears. Katy was able to start training with Yona which is a great sign, as initially Yona wasn’t even interested in food. Last night when I checked on her she was curled up in a pile of hay.Read more
