Teeth update

While meeting with Katy I noticed a picture on her computer. It was of red wolf M1803, Moose, from earlier in the month. It was a great close up of his face (thanks to Ranger Robert for getting the photo), with his jaw open and teeth in excellent view. It reminded me of the post from the end of May, in which we get a good close up of a video of one of our yearling wolf’s teeth. Teeth ofRead more

6-week pup check

Our six-pack continues to do well. They spend more and more time out in the yard, coming in and out of berms, bushes, and dead fall and can be seen high on the cliff with the rest of the family. We were excited (and relieved) that all six were in the primary den at 6 AM when we went to catch them up earlier this week. Being a Big Brother

Many people have seen the below video of one of our yearling brother wolves having at the den camera. He removed and destroyed the camera, without ingesting any of it. This is one of the most special (and pretty funny) den video clips from my point of view. So much is going in this clip for me. First, notice that there are pups in the den. It was interesting and entertaining to watch the family now that the pups are starting to move on their own.  The pups spent the day onRead more

What a good dad!

Monday we shared video of M1803 in the den while mom, F2062, nursed. Two more videos of Dad’s interactions: the first, is him dropping off food (a rat) for his family. The second has Dad and a pup with some very sweet together time 🙂Read more

Yesterday’s pup check

We had great weather yesterday to do our 4-week check on the pups. We gathered our team, supplies, and made our work plan for entering the yard. At 4-weeks, the pups are more mobile, their ears are starting to get pointy, snout longer, eyes are open, and their dark color is starting to fade on their legs in particular. By next check, the blazes on their chest will likely be very faded. We still use our newborn pup check sheetRead more
