Oh my!
I often see box turtles in the woods behind my house. There seem to be lots of them and that leads to my question: Is there any safe and effective way to mark or ID them so I can make a sort of box turtle census?
Thanks!
Hi Donald,
Good question-I don’t really know the answer- maybe other keepers will chime in. If you have a camera, you could take up close photos– box turtles can have really different colors and markings, and may even have a distinguishing old injury marking. You could also contact someone from the Davidson College Herpetology Lab http://www.bio.davidson.edu/people/midorcas/dorcas_home.htm
They study box turtles and may have your answer! Let us know what you find out.
