I’ve been too busy to write. Medical needs for animals; preparing for bad weather; and just too much work. As far as today, we made it though Hurricane/Tropical Storm Isaias without any major issues, thank goodness. Even in the dark hours early this morning, as the rain stopped by 5 AM, we could see fences intact and nothing major to repair or tend to. It was a much different tour of grounds tonight than last night. We’ve had a bunchRead more

Very Hot and Hectic Week
I find everything hard in the heat. Slower going at tasks, more changing of sweaty masks and clothes, more checking in on humans and non-humans alike to make sure everybody is getting through the day. Even our meetings are hot. The banner photo above shows our new meeting location– the parking deck! Staying safe requires masks and being distant from each other. Pig Physicals Complete
Miss Piggy and Auggie received their annual physical and a clean bill of health from Dr. Mozzachio, who was in checking on our twosome recently. Their annual physical consists of a Rabies vaccine, hoof trimming, teeth check, ear and eye cleaning, and general body assessment. Last Week in June
I was so happy this morning to welcome back former volunteer and former temporary Animal Keeper Nicole. Nicole’s arrival and help brought smiles and cheers from the rest of the team this morning! The other thing I was sooooooo happy about this morning is Virginia’s improvement. Last week she tore part of the skin off her foot. Given the issues she has already walking it was a hard few days for her. We’ve had her locked in the house soRead more
Gypsy goat update
I mentioned in the past week that things have been mostly fine. Thank goodness, as it’s hard enough to deal when things are going well. Lightning seems much improved, as you can see in my game of fetch with him. We’ve been treating him for a couple weeks now for an apparent ulcer. Not the best time to have added expenses, but we do what has to be done. And speaking of added expenses, Gypsy goat is also in muchRead more
Keeping Lemurs Safe
It’s a difficult time– for everyone. Things are new for everyone with the Covid-19 virus. For many weeks we’ve got to change our way of living to help keep ourselves and those most at risk from this virus as safe as possible. At the Museum, a lot has changed. Too much to write about right now. Instead, know that we are here caring for each other and the animals whose wellness we are responsible for. With the above in mind,Read more
